Sort Of An Epic Fail

My Saturday with the kids:
First mistake of the day was planning a last minute activity on an already full day.  I know better at this point.  Music class at 9AM, later playing at the park in 25 degree weather... and all without naps.  Not good!  There should never be more than one major activity in a day with 3 preschoolers. Their attentions spans just aren't ready for that much activity in one day especially without a nap.  This can also cause mommy burnout, ummm hmmm.

I received a text message earlier in the day from a fellow homeschooling mommy who is super ambitious.  She gave me the heads up for a play called A Christmas Wish at the Quest Theater Ensemble, a quintessential Chicago theater.  On the Quest Theater website the play was described as follows:

All seems hopeless when Dasher finds himself separated from Santa and mounted on a wall in a taxidermy shop. The only thing that can right this sleigh is a genuine Christmas miracle. Join Dasher and a host of new animal friends as they hope for the impossible against incredible odds. A Christmas Wish features Quest’s signature large-scale puppetry, a rockin’ musical score and plenty of holiday cheer for the whole family.

Sounds like a kid friendly play right?  Not necessarily, LOL.  This was an adult love story chalked full of innuendo.  The play was filled with beautiful puppetry and even a cool Santa who mentioned the names of all my kids during the performance as I provided for the staff before being seated.  We were treated very nicely and had a fantastic time.  Luckily all the adult innuendo easily went over the heads of The Curious Crew so at the end of the day no harm no foul. Actually this was the kids first theater experience and they really seemed to love it.  By the end of the performance they all wanted to be actors which I thought was kind of cool.  I felt like this was a nice intro to theater.  Would I take the kids to see A Christmas Wish knowing the story line as I do now?  No.  Would I have left the play at intermission if my mother in law wasn't enjoying it so much?  Yes.  Would I discourage other parents from taking their young children to see this play?  Maybe.  I would certainly forewarn parents of very young children to beware of the story line.

The Quest Theater Ensemble is locate in St. Gregory the Great Church.  The church has donated a wonderful space so that the community can share in the production of art and have access to theater regardless of personal economic resources.  All productions are free of charge to ensure everyone can enjoy but donations are really appreciated.  I will definitely return but perhaps on a date night unless I am sure the performance is kiddie in nature.

Never a dull moment
